FACILITIES

PWI boasts the 1998 Honor Award from the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for its awarding design of blending with the wilderness environment. The Neal-Prince and Partners Architectural Firm designed the facility with functionality and minimum disruption of the surroundings. The two structures both serve dual purposes. The Multipurpose Building houses the kitchen, dining, and group assemblies. The Dormitory building provides two separate sleeping quarters for seventeen students each.

PWI is proud to announce that during the summer of 2006, the temporary trailers used for educationhave been replaced with modular units.  These units are built sturdy and placed on permanent footings. Each of the two academic buildings measuring 24’ x 64’ houses three full size classrooms each. The new office building also measuring 24’ x 64’ provides offices for management, educational and counseling staff as well as a conference area. An elaborate porch and decking system has been added to connect all the buildings.

PWI wishes to express our thanks to the Department of Juvenile Justice for their part in funding the academic facilities and to the public and Palmetto Bank in securing funds for the office building. We appreciate the fine work by Carolina Modular of Turbeville, SC who constructed the buildings.

PWI continues to seek additional donations and grant opportunities for landscaping and walkways needed throughout the rest of the campus.

If anyone is interested in contributing or aware of grant possibilities, please contact the Executive Director directly by email at PWI-ED@amikids.org or by phone (864) 833-4505.
