VOCATIONAL

Vocational instruction enables our students to experience options for future employment. Students are rotated into the kitchen to help prepare meals for their peers. This is more than just extra duties, as students are taught to plan menus with proper nutrition, cook a variety of meals, and clean with the proper sanitation methods. Students have left the program on occasion to find employment as cooks in local restaurants. Other classes such as woodworking, facility maintenance, gardening and landscaping are offered. Experiential "hands-on" instruction provides students with unique experiences that produce pride and self-esteem.

Mr. James Long teaches the landscaping class, instructing students in the proper methods of lawn care while maintaining and improving the campus. PWI plans to beautify the campus with shrubs and flowers as funds allows.  Mr. Long also incorporates a maintenance curriculum that instructs students in the care and maintenance of our facilities and equipment. Each student is required to locate placement before graduation and vocational classes provide each student with more options.
