Established in 1991, AMIkids Piedmont (formerly known as Piedmont Wilderness Institute) is a residential program for male juvenile offenders that serves as an alternative to state incarceration.  AMIkids Piedmont operates in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice . AMIkids Piedmont serves male juvenile offenders from South Carolina within the age range of 14-18 years.  All students are screened and selected by the Treatment, Behavior Modification, and Education components.  Selection is based on the student's emotional and behavioral history. Students must progress through a  rank system in order to graduate from AMIkids Piedmont. Students attend academic core classes from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.  Student medical and psychological needs are met through the Treatment component.  To ensure that each student receives the most effective experience, a system called the Personal Growth Model is used at AMIkids Piedmont.  The Personal Growth Model is all three components (Treatment, Behavior Modification, and Education) working together to ensure the success of each student.  AMIkids Piedmont also believes in the following theories in relation to the treatment of it's students:  William Glasser's  Reality Therapy Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, and principles of BF Skinner's Behaviorism.  We believe in maintaining a family atmosphere that gives the love and discipline that each student needs.  Our whole environment is built using The AMIkids Way and the 13 values of AMIkids.  More information about the treatment philosophies of AMIkids Piedmont can be found on the Treatment page. Twice a year our students participate in the AMIkids Experiential Challenge Event in which students from all of AMIkids participate in athletic, academic, and life skill competitions.
