Piedmont Wilderness Institute (PWI) is a
non-profit organization dedicated to helping young offenders in South Carolina
to become productive citizens. PWI is a six-month residential facility in cooperation
with the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice to provide academics, outdoors and
life skills training. PWI uses William Glasser’s behavior modification
philosophy to teach responsibility for ones own choices in life. To see a
detail description of our Mission and Philosophy, please review the web page Mission, Philosophy and Program Description.
PWI is one of over 50 such programs in the
Southeast under the auspices of the Associated Marine Institutes (AMI) in
Tampa, Fl. A review of AMI and other institutes may be found at http://www.amikids.org. PWI receives local
support from community professionals and educators to advise management in
areas of individual expertise. The members of the Board are listed on the
accompanying page at Board of Trustees. PWI receives
state funds for service to adjudicated youth but appreciates funds from
business and community sources to better serve our students. If desiring more
